NIA bijeenkomst: Continuous Manufacturing

NIA Bijeenkomst: Continuous Manufacturing door Lawrence de Belder (Janssen).
Three products have been approved now for a range of markets with a new technology called Continuous Manufacturing, and this is only the start of what is promising to become a transformation of the way tablets are developed and produced in the Pharmaceutical Industry. Janssen was the first to convert a marketed product from batch to a continuous process, and is globally recognized as a frontrunner in the implementation of this innovative way of producing medicine. Lawrence De Belder, program manager for the implementation of this technology in the Janssen Supply chain, will present an overview of the Janssen Journey for continuous manufacturing, how it started, and why the different platforms were chosen the way they are today. He will reflect on what elements of this strategy are easy to achieve, and what can demand more effort than one would think in the beginning of such a journey. The essence of continuous manufacturing is to understand the effect of process dynamics on the quality of the product, and basic principles will be summarized.
Different companies have different strategies to design their equipment, use Process Analytical Technology, build control in their systems, and deploy continuous manufacturing capacity in their organization. An overview will be given showing that there are many ways continuous manufacturing can bring benefits to companies and patients.
