Precision Medicine for More Oxygen (P4O2), unlocking the prevention of lung disease
P4O2 is a strategic public private partnership sponsored by Health Holland. The aim of P4O2 is to identify treatable traits and innovative preventive and therapeutic strategies to both prevent progression of early stage damage and to reverse established damage by stimulating repair. The consortium exist of over more than 30 partners inclusing patients (and patient organisations), academic hospitals and universities, SME’s and also large companies (see website p4o2.org for more information). On a regular basis new partners are joining the consortium. Within the project we build cohorts (healthy, high risk for chronic respiratory disease, COPD, ILD, long COVID19 and newest plan is to add lung cancer cohort) in which we ask the patients many questions, measure lung function, perform a CT scan, take many samples for –omics analyses and perform exposome measurement on a individual basis. Next to that we also develop lung-on-a chip, nose-on-a-chip and muscle-on-a-chip models to perfrom translation results. The collaboration between public and private partners gives an extra dimension to the project and makes it possible to quickly translate findings into clinical practice.
